Sponsor a child or adolescent with diabetes atCampamento Diabetes Safari 2011 |
|
Did you know?
| · 35 children in the U. S. and another 20 to 25 children in México are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each day |
| . |
| · the pancreas of a
person with type 1 diabetes produces little or no insulin; as a result,
the person becomes "insulin-dependent" or dependent on
injected insulin for the rest of his or her life |
| . |
| · type 1 diabetes is a condition that no one ever outgrows, not even if they exercise intensively or eat healthily...there is no remission and there is no cure |
| . |
| · to stay alive, children
or adolescents with diabetes must take multiple insulin injections daily
and test their blood sugar level 5 or more times each day in
order to prevent life-threatening reactions due to abnormally low or high blood sugar levels |
| . |
| · unlike for other medical conditions, continuously individualized and up-to-date education is essential to successful treatment of type 1 diabetes |
| . |
| · the treatment of
type 1 diabetes mellitus (insulins, blood glucose test strips, syringes,
vitamins, doctors' visits) is EXPENSIVE; families with one
affected child are required to spend a great deal of money to ensure their child's health |
Campamento Diabetes Safari is a four-day educational and recreational camp for children and adolescents who are 7 to 18 years of age and who have insulin-dependent type 1 diabetes.
Campamento Diabetes Safari achieves excellent practical and educational results through a unique model of learning: personalized and individualized education and recreation in an international, bilingual environment. The professional Staff aims to prepare the children and adolescents with insulin-dependent type 1 diabetes to handle the constant and lifelong challenges of managing and self-managing the condition. Good education in the management and self-management of diabetes is essential in order to avoid the disabling long-term complications (blindness, kidney disease, nerve damage, heart disease, amputation) that result from chronic hyperglycemia. Donations are used exclusively to provide this diabetic education to children and adolescents.
Organizing and operating Campamento Diabetes Safari represents a costly endeavor. Without the generous donations of individuals, corporations, and the professional Staff members who receive only travel assistance and a minimal salary, the Campamento could not continue the tradition of educating young children and adolescents about insulin-dependent type 1 diabetes in a caring, supportive, and fun environment.
Campamento Diabetes Safari represents a world of difference from "traditional" diabetes camps
Campamento
Diabetes Safari works to help children and adolescents overcome
their fears and show them that they are not alone in their condition.
The Campamento benefits each child and adolescent for many years to come
by
| · providing the opportunity to meet other young people and Staff members who also have insulin-dependent type 1 diabetes |
| . |
| · providing a 4-day break filled with activities, learning, and recreation |
| . |
| · teaching children and teens how to manage insulin-dependent type 1 diabetes while maintaining an active lifestyle |
| . |
| · building self-esteem, health maintenance skills, and independence |
| . |
| · providing trained multidisciplinary health care professionals to ensure Campers receive appropriate medical attention and timely guidance |
| . |
| · delivering expert education in the latest tools and techniques for managing insulin-dependent type 1 diabetes mellitus |
| . |
| · allowing parents to have a needed 4-day break from the 24-hour-a-day stress and effort required when a child or adolescent has type 1 diabetes mellitus |
Why your financial assistance is needed
Campamento Diabetes Safari invites donors to sponsor children and adolescents from 7 - 18 years of age, who have diabetes. Your donation makes possible the Campers' attendance.
The burden of the cost for the Camp falls largely on the Camper's parents. Each family contributes what it can to cover the costs of attendance at Camp. Still, for many families, a small contribution can mean a great sacrifice. The parents' monthly cost of managing their child's insulin-dependent diabetes comes to over $320 U. S. Dollars or 185 €. Often, with the costs of routine medical care and supplies, there is nothing left over to pay for Camp tuition. This is where we need your financial help. By sponsoring a Camper's attendance, you ensure that they learn to manage their condition. This learning, in turn, will help them lead active, productive, and fulfilled lives. And there are few things more rewarding than enabling a child or adolescent to grow with confidence and excitement about the future.
To make manageable the cost for attending Campamento Diabetes Safari, all Campers receive a partial scholarship, in the form of the subsidized registration fees charged. The donations received from individuals and businesses are used to provide this scholarship assistance. No Camper is turned away because of ethnic origin, religion, socioeconomic status, or nationality.
We invite you to support Campamento
Diabetes Safari by sponsoring an insulin-dependent child or adolescent
to attend Camp. The actual cost of the full four-day session is $550
U. S. Dollars ($6600 Mexican pesos or 400 €). You can sponsor
a child or adolescent for the 2011 season for:
| $550 USD or $6600 pesos mexicanos or 400 €: | .. | your donation covers the full four days of Camp for one child or adolescent with diabetes |
| . | . | |
| $400 USD or $5000 pesos mexicanos or 270 €: | . | your donation covers the cost of three days at Camp for one child or adolescent with diabetes |
| . | . | |
| $280 USD or $3300 pesos mexicanos or 200 €: | . | your donation covers two days of Camp for one child or adolescent with diabetes |
| . | . | |
| $170 USD or $2000 pesos mexicanos or 120 €: | . | this amount will pay for one child's or adolescent's food during the 4 days of Camp |
How to help
Campamento Diabetes Safari is a non-profit annual event and can only achieve its goals of educating children and adolescents with insulin-dependent diabetes with the help of your generosity. For that reason, we ask for your financial support, in whatever amount you can contribute. All financial contributions made this year help to support Campamento Diabetes Safari 2011. All in-kind contributions will also be used for the children and adolescents at Campamento Diabetes Safari 2011.
There are two options for helping the Campers learn to live a happy, healthy lifestyle, free of the fears and limitations too often associated with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus in childhood and adolescence:
Become an Individual Donor: Your donation shows your personal support for this vital educational experience. Additionally, perhaps you are willing to organize an event to raise funds for Campamento Diabetes Safari? Do you have an idea of how we might ensure the existence of the Campamento, which is so useful to the children and adolescents with insulin-dependent diabetes? We would be happy to hear your ideas and proposals. Your support is essential. On their behalf, thank you.As an Individual Donor or a Corporate Sponsor, you can make contributions in money or in kind. All donations are destined to cover the costs of providing education and recreation to children and adolescents with insulin-dependent diabetes through their attendance at Campamento Diabetes Safari 2011.Become a Corporate Sponsor: Organizations or companies can donate funds and in that way gain recognition for the company, foundation, or organization, and at the same time support the work of Campamento Diabetes Safari. Sponsorship provides the companies with the opportunity to participate in the community, construct a positive image, build their brand, and gain exposure to an international market. Some companies establish programs through which they match the charitable donations of their employees, thus doubling the impact of their contribution. Businesses or organizations can sponsor more than one child or adolescent. Thank you for your donation!
